FamilySearch adds 1891 Norway census

This year has been a good one for genealogists researching their Norwegian ancestry.

Thanks to a multi-year collaborative project with Ancestry, MyHeritage, FamilySearch, and Arkivverket (National Archives of Norway), we are seeing several new Norwegian collections being made available online.

One of FamilySearch’s newest collections is the 1891 Norway Census, which contains more than 2.7 million records. It was added less than two weeks ago and can be searched for free.

Perhaps this recent interest in records from Norway is why the FamilySearch website is now available in Norwegian, along with 29 other languages.

FamilySearch provides an information page about the census and Norwegian-English translations, which is worth a read. For example, Ugift means Married in English.

Ancestry added the 1891 Norway Census about 18 months ago, and MyHeritage likely added it at about the same time.
