The BC Archives announced last Friday that “due to staffing challenges” it is temporarily unable to accept requests for reproductions of photographs, maps, audio or video material, in addition to requests for permissions and licensing.
This issue will not end quickly. British Columbia’s provincial archives said in its statement to “check back with us in October for an update.”
The good news for family historians is that the BC Archives will still accept and process reproduction requests for textual records, including divorce orders, court orders, wills and probates, and coroners inquests. It’s quite possible that “textual records” include birth and death records.
