Since I have a lot of ancestors and relatives who lived in Canada, I’m always happy to see new Canadian newspaper titles added to Newspapers.com.
Yesterday, I was excited when I saw that five new publications had been added.
Then, I was disappointed. But, I remain hopeful.
There are now five new Ontario newspapers on the site — all from Niagara-on-the-Lake. That’s the good news.
The not so good news is that we’re only looking at a small number of pages to search.
Why do I remain hopeful? I’m crossing my fingers that these first few pages are the beginning of Newspapers.com’s plan to add many more years of issues to their site — and to continue adding Canadian publications.
Here are the latest newspapers — all from the very picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Upper Canada Guardian, Niagara-on-the-Lake
1808 — 4 pages
Niagara Mail, Niagara-on-the-Lake
1846 — 4 pages
Niagara Herald, Niagara-on-the-Lake
1801-1802 — 237 pages
1885-1886 — 10 pages
1828-1830 — 1830
Niagara Chronicle, Niagara-on-the-Lake
1839-1854 — 542 pages
Niagara Chronicle and Adviser, Niagara-on-the-Lake
1838 — 4 pages
I continue to watch for an extensive collection of issues from Toronto’s Globe and Mail and the Picton Gazette. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
