Old Toronto interactive map, OldTP, back online

There was a lot of good information this month in the newsletter of Ontario Genealogical Society’s Toronto Branch, including a short article about OldTO, an interactive map that shows what many streets once looked like in Canada’s largest city.

The site features digitized historical photos from the City of Toronto Archives. Some of the photos date back to 1865.

When you enter an address in the search box, dots appear at that address or nearby. Click on a dot and you’ll see photos for that location, dating back as far as 1865.

The site was originally put together by Google’s Sidewalk Labs. When the project was dropped and Sidewalk Labs left Toronto, it stopped hosting the OldTO site.

Then, Back Lane Studios and software developer Michael Lenaghan stepped in and resurrected the site.
