The Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) issued the following notice to announce its new chief executive officer:
BAnQ is delighted to announce that the Conseil des ministres has appointed Ms. Christiane Barbe as new Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec.
She will take office on August 18, 2014, and thus succeed Dr. Guy Berthiaume.
Ms. Barbe is currently president of the Commission de la fonction publique du Québec.
She served as Deputy Minister at the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport from 2009 to 2011. She was formerly the Deputy Minister at the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine, from 2004 to 2009. Prior to that, she held the position of Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for the Regions in this same ministry, from 2001 to 2004. Under her leadership, the ministry received two Québec awards for excellence in public administration, one in 2007, in the E-Government category (Gouvernement en ligne) for a client service enhancement project, and one in 2008 in the People Management category (Gestion des personnes).
Ms. Barbe, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Relations from Université de Montréal, undertook post-graduate studies in Public Administration at the École nationale d’administration publique. She is also a member of the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés, an association which awarded her a Professionel émérite award in 2011. This prestigious award pays tribute to the outstanding achievements of members whose sheer competence has helped promote the HR profession and set shining examples for all.
