Findmypast has more than Ontario newspapers… but you need to know where to look

It appears Findmypast is playing with genealogists who research their ancestors who lived in Canada.

If you are looking on Findmypast for newspapers in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba or Newfoundland — select Canada in the US & World category. Then select the State filter.

If you want Ontario newspapers, look in the British category, and then look for Ontario in the County filter.

I understand the reason for the British category is because of Findmypast’s arrangement with the British Newspaper Library, but it still makes it complicated, even after you know where to look.

Let’s hope they soon consolidate all Canadian newspapers into one identifiable category.

It would also be good customer relations to list subscription rates in Canadian currency. After all, they provide rates in US dollars for Americans and Australian dollars for Australians.

Thanks to Aine on the Genealogy à la carte Facebook group for straightening me out on where to find all the Canadian newspapers on Findmypast.

  1. Shirley Farrar says:

I completely agree Gail! It annoys me to no end that Find My Past treats Canada as a limb of the USA.
