Here’s where to find Canadian newspapers on Findmypast (Hint: Don’t look under ‘US & World’)

Findmypast in February added three Ontario newspapers to their collection, but don’t look for them in the US & World category. You won’t find them there, nor will you find Ontario or any other Canadian province in the State filter.

Hamilton Daily Times
1875, 1879, 1881-1882, 1884, 1886, 1912-1915, 1920

Toronto Daily Mail
1886-1888, 1890, 1894-1895

Toronto Saturday Night
1887-1898, 1900-1909

Margaret Dougherty inquired about where to find the Canadian newspapers, and here’s Findmypast’s explanation on where to find them:

“These papers are online through our British Library partnership and come from the British Newspaper Library as part of our British Commonwealth collection.

“Currently in order to locate these you must select the ‘British’ option rather than ‘US & World’. This is something that will be looked into in the future as we add more releases from the Commonwealth.”

Use the County filter
Once in the British newspapers option, you can look for Canadian newspapers by narrowing down your search results by using the County filter and then selecting the province.

Right now, it appears only the above three newspapers, all from Ontario, are available.

It’s a start.
