School of Irish Studies podcast series

The School of Irish Studies at Concordia University in Montreal announced the beginning of the second season of its podcast series with a lecture by Dr. Cahal McLaughlin from Queen’s University Belfast.

The first podcast is the lecture, Telling Stories from the Troubles: The Prisons Memory Archive, by Dr. McLaughlin that he delivered at the School of Irish Studies on September 18.

The Prisons Memory Archive is a collection of 175 filmed walk-and-talk interviews back inside the prisons of the ‘Troubles’ (a period of 30 years of armed political conflict stretching approximately from 1968 to 1998). Applying principles of co-ownership, inclusivity and life-story telling, 175 people were filmed inside the empty Armagh Gaol and the Maze and Long Kesh Prison during 2006 and 2007. Prison staff, prisoners, probation officers, teachers, family visitors, and chaplains remember their experiences during a period of intense violence, societal division, and military containment.

Links to lectures in the first season of the podcast are available on the School of Irish Studies website. (The podcasts are listed halfway down the web page.)
