It must be true what they say about the luck of the Irish. We are lucky, especially today.
Here is a fabulous way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day: watch five hours of lectures about Irish genealogy research, delivered by Fintan Mullan and Gillian Hunt of the Ulster Historical Foundation.
As part of their Canadian and American tour, Mr. Mullan and Ms. Hunt yesterday delivered an all-day workshop at the Fountaindale Public Library in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
Much to my delight and surprise, it appears that the entire workshop was live streamed, recorded, and posted in four sessions on the library’s YouTube channel.
Session 1: Introduction to Irish and Scots-Irish family history
Session 2: Using land records: Griffith’s Valuation, tithe and estate records
Session 3: Census substitutes and other sources for 18th and 19th centuries; records related to the different churches in Ireland
Session 4: Sources for finding 17th-century families
This seems too good to be true, so I would watch these videos as soon as possible — before they possibly disappear.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Thanks to T. O’Connell for sharing the news.
I had the opportunity to hear Fintan Mullan and Gillian Hunt of the Ulster Historical Foundation deliver their talk at BIFHSGO last March in Ottawa. Getting up uber early and driving from Montreal was absolutely well worth it!
