You can now search Nova Scotia civil death registrations by name, from 1890 to 1957, or browse by county and year. The collection represents two databases, containing 348,852 records.
The records contain deaths from Halifax in 1890-1908, and deaths from all counties in 1908-1955. They are arranged by county and then year. A second record set, Nova Scotia Deaths, 1956-1957, can also be searched by name or browsed. The records are housed at the Archives of Nova Scotia in Halifax.
The death registrations may contain the following information:

In January 2014, FamilySearch added the database, Nova Scotia Church Records, 1720-2001, that contains baptisms, marriages, and deaths, and can only be browsed by county and year. Check FamilySearch for all the Nova Scotia databases.
