254-year-old seigneurial register to be displayed during open house

The Société d’histoire et de généalogie des Mille-Îles in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec will open its doors to invite everyone to visit their archives on Monday, April 27.

During the society’s open house, visitors will be able to see the vaults, offices, and a small exhibit of some of the society’s documents and artifacts, including works of art.

For many, what will be most interesting to see is the terrier owned for a time by Janvier-Domptail Lacroix, seigneur of Blainville. The terrier contains records from 1761 to 1891.

A terrier is a seigneurial register in which was written deeds and other documents pertaining to the ownership of the seigneurie and subsequent transactions, along with declarations of the copyholders, rents, and the customs of the seigneurie.
