The Provincial Archives of Alberta has added indexes for 1904 births, 1949 marriages and 1974 deaths that are newly available this year.
The indexes provide a person’s name, location of the birth, marriage and death, and the exact date or just the year. An unfortunate aspect of the marriages is that you can look up the name of a bride or groom, but won’t see who they married. You also won’t see any other names, such as those of the parents or witnesses. Still, it’s a good start.
The provincial archives provides access to:
• Birth records that are older than 120 years
• Stillbirth records that are older than 75 years
• Marriage records older than 75 years
• Death records older than 50 years
Visit the Births, Marriages and Deaths section on the provincial archives’ website to look at the indexes. The records can be ordered online in digital or paper format.
If you do not find the person you are looking for in the indexes, you can send an email to the archives at paa@gov.ab.ca.
