Note: Less than a day after publishing the blog post below, I learned that Ancestry had also added death registrations for 1952. So, I wrote an updated blog post.
Ancestry has updated its collection, currently called Ontario, Canada, Deaths and Deaths Overseas, 1869-1950, to include death registrations for the year 1951.
Subscribers can now explore more than 43,000 newly added Ontario death registrations. These records are from the Archives of Ontario.
Will we see more years for death registrations added soon? Hard to say.
Last September, the Archives of Ontario replied to Ken McKinlay’s question about the 1941 and 1942 marriage registrations and the 1951 and 1952 death registrations. They wrote, “While we’re unfortunately not able to provide specific release dates at this point, we can confirm that the Ontario registrations for 1918 births, 1941-1943 marriages and 1951-1953 deaths are actively being digitized and processed for online release.”
So, perhaps we’ll see even more vital records from Canada’s largest province this year on Ancestry. Or not.
On FamilySearch, the Canada, Ontario, Deaths, 1869-1937 and Overseas Deaths, 1939-1947 collection is free to search. All you need is a free account.
