Watch for updates on AncestryDNA

If you haven’t looked at your DNA results on Ancestry in a while, you may to keep an eye open for updates that should be coming in the next few weeks.

Some think the updates will be improved ethnicity estimates.

Others think we’ll see a SideView for our grandparents, not just our parents as we do now. Note that this past week, Ancestry moved SideView behind its pay wall, which they call AncestryDNA Plus.

I think Donna Rutherford in London, England has the best suggestion about what to do when the updates appear. She posted on X: “I’m going to have to organise an AncestryDNA ethnicity estimate pub session for everyone’s reveal.”

While looking at my test results, which I do every day, I just noticed the Chromosome Painter in Beta, which shows me chromosome by chromosome what ethnicity I inherited from my parents. This is a feature available to subscribers.

Both SideView and the Chomosome Painter can be found in the Ethnicity Estimate section.
