Federal workers’ strike disrupts services at Library and Archives Canada

A strike by nearly one-third of all federal public servants is affecting services at Library and Archives Canada (LAC), along with other federal agencies, such as tax processing, passport renewals, Employment Insurance, and Veterans Affairs Canada.

During this labour dispute, LAC said some of their services may be delayed or not delivered at all. As well, the public may have trouble accessing some Government of Canada buildings where services are delivered.

Service points in Ottawa, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Halifax expect to remain open, but LAC said in a news release, “It is important to plan ahead if you are visiting us in person.”

Services not available during the strike include ordering archival and published material and requesting copies. Researchers should also expect delays in processing requests and appointments for reference or genealogy help.

Most online services to publishers, galleries, libraries archives and museums should be functional, with some delays possible.
