Ancestry adds Ontario birth registrations for 1916

Ancestry yesterday uploaded Ontario birth registrations for 1916 to its website — sooner than expected. Because of the pandemic, the 1915 birth registrations were only added last year in September. This year’s release of birth records is closes to the pre-pandemic schedule.

Civil registration began in Ontario on July 1, 1869, and Ancestry’s Ontario births collection now spans the period, 1869 to 1916, with a few pre-1869 records back to 1833.

The Ontario births collection can searched by keyword or browsed by county and year.

Last year, it was expected that Ancestry would publish Ontario marriages for 1939 and death registrations for 1949, but it didn’t happen. Perhaps this year, they’ll publish marriages for both 1939 and 1940 and death registrations for 1949 and 1950.

FamilySearch’s Ontario births collections spans 1869 to 1912, and it can be searched for free with a free account. It has also Ontario marriages, 1869-1927, and Ontario deaths, 1869-1937 and overseas deaths, 1939-1947.
