41 projects across Canada to receive $1.5 million to preserve documentary heritage

Library and Archives Canada announced yesterday it will provide $1.5 million to support 41 projects (including 26 new projects) by archives, libraries and documentary heritage institutions throughout Canada. These projects will be funded under the Documentary Heritage Communities Program.

The Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage, said, “Supporting communities to provide greater digital access to their collections will ensure that Canadians will have even more opportunities to discover their heritage, wherever they live in Canada.”

Although no genealogical society is among the list of 2021-2011 recipients, a few historical societies and museums and several Indigenous organizations received funding for projects that may help support family history research.

The next funding cycle will be launched in fall 2021.
