The history lovers on your gift list may enjoy reading some of the selections on Canada’s History’s 2019 Book & Gift Guide.
The books cover a range of topics, including the Métis, the flight of the Scottish Highlanders to Canada, homesteading on the prairies, Franco-Americans, the Italian campaign during WWII, Polish veterans in Alberta, how food shaped the course of WWI, Newfoundland’s entry into Confederation, and British Columbia’s gold rushes.
Canada’s History also published a different selection of books in its list of the top ten bestsellers on Canada’s history.
Smithsonian Magazine’s top ten American history books for 2019 is also worth a look for gift ideas.
Some very interesting choices! I’d love to read “The York Factory Express”, but it doesn’t seem to be widely available. Out of stock at printer, unavailable on Amazon, nothing on eBay; not at my local library or URSUS. I even checked online with the St. Croix library at St. Stephen since I’ll be within spitting distance later today.
Something like it on Abebooks, a reprint of Edward Ermatinger’s account of years 1827 and 1828.
Pooh…
This is the author’s website address. Perhaps she will be able to suggest where to buy the book. http://nancymargueriteanderson.com/york-factory-express/ The publisher, Ronsdale Press, may also be able to help. It appears you can order the book directly from them. http://ronsdalepress.com/york-factory-express-the/
Thx! In the meantime, I bought the Ermatringer book.
