Lives of the First World War website to be re-launched in June

The Imperial War Museums announced its Lives of the First World War website will close at 12:01 a.m. GMT on Tuesday, March 19. The permanent digital memorial will be re-launched on the Imperial War Museums website at the end of June.

Between March 19 and the re-launch, the Lives of the First World War website will be redirected temporarily to a holding page.

Lives of the First World War is a centenary project, designed to coincide with the peak in public interest in this conflict, during the years 2014 to 2019. Its purpose is to make a permanent digital memorial for the more than 7.6 million men and women from across Britain and the Commonwealth who contributed to WWI.

Lives of the First World War enables users to share photographs, letters and stories about those who served.

The website is delivered in partnership with Findmypast.

More information about the temporary closure is here.

I wonder if they’ll allow additions once they reopen in June. I got notice I only have a couple of weeks to add info and right now, I can’t afford the money to do a proper job – just spent this month’s genealogy budget on some certificates. Very frustrating.

I just explored further and, unless I pay the 6 quid in the next few weeks, I won’t be able to create the memorials for my great-uncles. Argh! Will have to see if I can squeeze another bit out of the budget…cat had a major vet bit, so definitely bad timing. Should have done it earlier *sigh*.
