Index of Quebec City ship passenger lists, 1865-1869, on Canadiana

Now that the more than 60 million pages are free to view on Canadiana, genealogists are discovering all kinds of gems and some are sharing their finds on social media.

Gerald F. shared on Facebook that a number of passenger lists for ships that sailed into Quebec City — Canada’s major port at the time — from 1865 to 1869 are available on Canadiana.

The Quebec City ships’ manifests: T-13367 are scanned images of index cards on a microfilm reel. While looking at these images may not be as easy as entering a name and immediately seeing the results, it sure beats travelling to an archival centre to look at a microfilm reel.

The index cards are organized in alphabetical order by surname and grouped by year of arrival. To find names beginning with a specific letter of the alphabet, use the down arrow next to Image in the top left corner to rather quickly scroll through the more than 2,500 index cards.

Each card provides the immigrant’s surname, first name (if given), and age, name of the ship, and date of arrival. The card also includes the Library and Archives of Canada microfilm reel number on which the index is located

This is an incomplete card index to the names of immigrants on the Quebec ships’ passenger manifests and the information in it may be inaccurate. Researchers should use this index to gain access to the information recorded on the manifests themselves from Library and Archives Canada. Simply send them an email.
