Quebec Genealogical eSociety offers free access to PRDH and BMS2000 and a webinar for the province’s National Genealogy Week

Quebec’s National Genealogy Week — Semaine nationale de la généalogie — kicked off yesterday and the Quebec Genealogical eSociety is offering what is probably the best deal.

The e-society will throw open its virtual doors to the Members Only section to everyone, and it will hold its first webinar in French.

Founder and board member Johanne Gervais said, “You don’t have to travel to us. We come to you wherever you are. Drop in and sample our amazing selection of tools and resources to help with your Quebec research including our recorded webinars on various genealogical topics.”

Webinar
On Monday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time, the Quebec Virtual eSociety will hold a free webinar, Histoire, Géographie et Généalogie – Tracer les Frontières, presented by Sandra Blanchette.

Free access to PRDH and BMS2000 during open house
The virtual open house on Wednesday, November 21, will allow non-members to go behind the Members Only wall. The doors will be open from 1:00 a.m. to midnight Eastern time.

Guests will have free access to PRDH — Programme de recherche en démographie historique / Research Program in Historical Demography) and BMS2000. These two subscription-based databases are essential resources for anyone researching their Quebec ancestors — and they are free through the e-society Wednesday.

To prepare for the free access to PRDH, you can conduct free searches. You will see the results, but will not be able to click on the names to see details about baptisms, marriages, and deaths. Wednesday, through the e-society’s link, you will be able to see the details — in English or French.

You can also conduct basic free searches on BMS2000. (Click on Try Free.)

The e-society’s Resource Links and recorded webinars will also be available to non-members during the open house. The only area on the website that will be off-limits to guests that day will be the Members’ Directory and registration for upcoming webinars.
