Despite genealogy remaining one of the most popular pastimes, the Moncton Times & Transcript after this Saturday will no longer publish Diane Tibert’s weekly column, Roots to the Past.
For 12 years, since October 2005, Ms. Tibert has written Roots to the Past, and the Times & Transcript was one of the first newspapers to pick it up.
The column, which focuses on genealogy research in Atlantic Canada, will continue to appear in two Nova Scotian newspapers, the Lunenburg County Progress Bulletin on Wednesdays and The Amherst Citizen on Saturdays. Unfortunately, only people who subscribe to these papers will be able to read the column, as has been the case with the Times & Transcript.
At one time, Ms. Tibert’s column appeared in newspapers in all four Atlantic Canadian provinces.

Ms. Tibert, who lives on a small homestead in rural Nova Scotia, said, “I knew the column wouldn’t last forever, and I’m pleased it had a 12-year run. At its peak, it was in 11 newspapers. I will continue to write for the last two newspapers until something else changes, then… who knows?”
Later this year, look for her book, Roots to the Past — the first year. It will contain a collection of columns, published between October 2005 and December 2006.
