Two of my favourite speakers, Glenn Wright and Lesley Anderson, will be speaking at the Ontario Public Library next Saturday morning at an event called, Circle of Life: Exploring Ontario Vital Records and Using AncestryDNA.
Exploring Ontario Vital Records
Provincial birth, marriage, and death registrations are a fundamental resource for researching our ancestors in Ontario. Glenn Wright and Lesley Anderson will discuss the history of civil registration in Ontario and show how the registration forms have evolved over time to reflect changes in our society. Find out where to access these records and how to make the most of them for genealogy and family history research.
Using Ancestry DNA
With AncestryDNA you can add a whole new dimension to your family history experience. Uncover your ethnic mix, connect with living cousins and distant relatives and find new, unique details – perhaps even solve a mystery or break down a brick wall.
The event will take place Saturday, October 21, at 9:30 a.m., at the Nepean Centrepointe library branch, 101 Centrepointe Dr., Ottawa.
Registration
The event is free, but advance registration is recommended. You can register online if you have a library card, or by phone at 613-580-2940.
Open to non-residents with temporary card
I called the library to find out if this event was limited to Ottawa residents and library card holders. I was told by a very helpful and friendly librarian that non-residents should apply online for a temporary library card and then register for the event.
It was easy to apply for and immediately receive a temporary library card number, Pin, and username. Registration for the event was even easier.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend. My biggest excuse is that I will be driving to Ottawa the following Saturday to deliver a presentation at the Ontario Genealogical Society Ottawa Branch’s meeting. Although I am still tempted. I know the location well because this is where the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa holds its meetings and conferences.
