Unfortunately, I have not one Loyalist among my ancestors. To think I know people who have both United Empire Loyalists and Filles du roi among their ancestry, but I digress.
Mark your calendar for the March 20 lecture at the Beaurepaire-Beaconsfield Historical Society’s meeting when Robert C. Wilkins, president of the United Empire Loyalists’ Association of Montreal, will be the guest speaker.
The lecture is entitled, The United Empire Loyalists: An Overview. Wilkins will provide a general overview of the United Empire Loyalists, what made them who they were, their diversity (religious, linguistic and racial), and their heritage in Canada today, with a couple of specific examples, just to illustrate what they lived through and experienced during the Revolutionary War and afterwards when getting re-established in what remained of British North America (now Canada).
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and will take place in Centennial Hall, 288 Beaconsfield Blvd. in Beaconsfield. The lecture will be presented in English, followed by a bilingual question and answer period. Admission is free for members and $2 for non-members. Everyone welcome.
