The National Library of Ireland’s (NLI) announced yesterday it is celebrating 50 million views of its photos on Flickr with a special caption competition.
Even if entering the competition is not your cup of tea, you may want to take a look at the large collection of old photos. There are almost 2,000 images on NLI’s Flickr account.
The easiest way to search for photos is to go to NLI’s photostream on Flickr. Click on the magnifying glass toward the right and then enter your search term, such as donegal, in the box at the top.
To browse the collection, the best way is to choose one or more of the many Albums and browse through the photos.
NLI joined Flickr in 2011 to “give wider exposure to our photographic collections and to encourage the public to help us to find out more about the photographs by adding comments, descriptions and tags. Contributors from around the world have helped us to identify locations and people, establish dates, and provide context and background as well as fascinating information about our photographs.”
Results of the caption competition will be announced January 16, 2017.
