Royal Library of Belgium digitizes 1.2 million newspaper pages, 1831-1918

The Royal Library of Belgium, the Bibliothèque royale de Belgique, announced last Friday it had uploaded 1.2 million newspaper pages from 1831 to 1918, and access to them is free.

The Begian newspapers are available on the library’s website and can be searched by keyword and/or date or browsed. Although the website is in French and Dutch, the search process is pretty straightforward.

Consulting newspapers online from 1919 to 1950 is not available for free because these issues are still protected by copyright.

In March, the Bibliothèque nationale de France announced its plans to accelerate the digitization of all newspapers from 1631 to 1945.

I am looking k for a synopsis or summary of life in West Flanders I the winter of 1944

Have you Googled “West Flanders “winter” “1944” to see what pops up? You may also want to search on the Internet Archive for something that was published in hard copy about that period. Also try searching for books on the topic in https://www.worldcat.org/ — the “world’s largest library catalog.”
