Ancestry.ca offers free access to all Canadian records this weekend

Print

This weekend, from April 3 to April 6, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time, Ancestry.ca is offering free access to all Canadian records.

Start your search in the Canadian collection here.

Ancestry.uk is making a similar offer for all UK records, and Ancestry.de offers access to all records in their German collection.

I bet there are similar offers in other Ancestry collections.

Why can’t I search any of Canada and UK for free. It gave me a voter record and a census It won’t let me search without singing a trial

To my knowledge, you must always register to take advantage of any of Ancestry’s free-access promotions. If there is one, make sure you check the box that says you do not want to automatically renew. As for signing up for a trial, that seems odd to me. Perhaps someone who has taken advantage of this weekend’s free acess can explain. (I am a long-time subscriber to the World edition.)

To confirm, the UK records are only available to view for free this weekend on Ancestry.uk. Canadian records are only available for free on Ancestry.ca.

On the Genealogy à la carte Facebook group — https://www.facebook.com/groups/GenealogyALaCarte/ — someone suggested you sign up for a “guest membership.” She wrote, “The guest membership never stops. Ancestry will frequently make records free for short periods and they will be able to acces all the open databases anytime.” I hope that helps.
