Celebrate your female ancestors and write about them

March 1 marks the beginning of Women’s History Month in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, corresponding with International Women’s Day on March 8, which is also held in Canada.

Although Canadians will have to wait until October for Women’s History Month, we can join our Commonwealth and American cousins this month by remembering, honouring, and writing about our female ancestors.

To help us start writing, author and lecturer Lisa Alzo provides a series of 31 writing prompts on her blog, The Accidental Genealogist. She explains the prompts: “You can choose to do some of them, or all of them — there’s no pressure — it’s meant to be a fun exercise to focus on the women and make sure their stories are told!”

Visit Ms. Alzo’s blog to read her list of writing prompts — and write.
