For the first time, this Monday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time, the Ontario Genealogical Society Toronto Branch will live stream a lecture. The Toronto Branch said, “This meeting will mark an exciting new beginning for Toronto Branch — we will be live-streaming our proceedings for the first time!”
Members and non-members are invited to watch for free — but we are asked to be patient and cross our fingers. While we all strive for perfection in this type of situation, the first time doing anything can often be a learning opportunity, but it makes for a better experience next time.
The guest lecturer is Richard Feltoe, author of Redcoated Ploughboys: The Volunteer Battalion of Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada, 1813-1815. He will speak about the recruitment, training and active service of this fascinating regiment, and introduce some of the personalities who were on its muster rolls in the various battles during the War of 1812.
Carrying on the military theme, the meeting will conclude with a short presentation from branch member Ken Godfrey on War and Remembrance: Three Brothers in WW I.
To join the live streaming, simply click on the link on this web page at the date and time of the meeting. Note that the Toronto Branch is not archiving recordings of this, so you will only be able to connect to a meeting as it is happening in real time.
You may also attend the meeting in person at the Burgundy Room, North York Memorial Hall, 5110 Yonge Street, Toronto (convenient access from the North York subway station).
To whet your appetite, a lengthy article by Richard Feltoe about the Redcoated Ploughboys is available here.
