Starting February 2, the Genealogical Association of Nova Scotia (GANS) will hold an eight-week course, Introduction to Genealogy – a Course for Beginners.
The course will be held Monday evenings for eight weeks and is intended to provide beginners with a firm understanding of the methods and research tools available to genealogists in Nova Scotia. Course topics will include census records, newspapers and directories, and probate and land records.
Each lecture will have an assignment, and assigments can be completed using sources found at the Nova Scotia Archives where one or more of the faculty will be available on Saturday and Wednesday evenings to offer guidance.
Participants who wish to seek certification through the Genealogical Institute of the Maritimes will qualify for a point toward their score when applying for certification by GIM.
The eight-week course will cost $160 for GANS members and $195 for non-members.
All lectures will be held at GANS’ new offices at 33 Ochterloney Street in Dartmouth.
