The Essex County Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society continues to add recordings of their virtual presentations to their YouTube channel, and we family historians continue to benefit from their generosity.
The latest recording is Mapping Early Black Settlements in Colchester and Amherstburg, presented by Karleigh Kochaniec on February 11.
Ms. Kochaniec has created an online map that showcases nineteenth-century Black settlement in Windsor-Essex, focusing mainly on Amherstburg and Colchester Township. This map is an extension of “Beyond the Underground Railroad: A History of Black Settlement in Nineteenth Century Amherstburg.” Ms. Kochaniec described the method used to create such a map and introduced her new research.
Prior to this presentation, the branch shared a Virtual Tour of the Franco-Ontarian Research Centre online.
