Librarian and Archivist of Canada Emeritus Guy Berthiaume yesterday was made a Knight of the National Order of Quebec, along with 21 other Quebecers who became Knights or Officers.
The recipients were decorated at a ceremony in the Legislative Council Chamber of the Parliament Building in Quebec City.
Premier François Legault said (in French), “What a joy and above all what an honour for me to take part in this ceremony where the government of Quebec honours exceptional Quebecers from all backgrounds and who are the pride of Quebec.”
Dr. Berthiaume served as Librarian and Archivist of Canada from June 2014 to August 2019. Prior to that, he had been the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec.
In 2020, Dr. Berthiaume was appointed as a member of the Order of Canada for his leadership in the preservation of our collective heritage and for making it more accessible to all Canadians.
The National Order of Quebec was created in 1984 to recognize current or former Quebec residents for outstanding achievements in any field and it is the province’s highest honour.
