Annual release of BC marriage and death records in May

BC Archives announced last week it expects to receive the annual release of death (2003) and marriage (1948) registrations from the BC Vital Statistics Agency in May 2024. The provincial archives will then digitize and index the records and add them to their website.

In 2023, we waited until August to search and view the the year’s release. Other years, we’ve had access to the new online records as early as June.

No word yet on the release of birth records for 1904, and many have patiently waited for 20 years.

The next time a new collection of BC birth registrations will be released is 120 years after the 1904 births were registered, and that suggests we may see them in 2024.

In 2004, the British Columbia Vital Statistics Act added an extra 20 years to the release of births, extending it to 120 years. Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait until 2025.

BC’s birth, marriage and death records can be searched in the provincial archives’ online Genealogy section.
