The challenge for the family history community and societies is attracting young people.
But perhaps that’s going to change.
A couple of days ago, the US Archives (NARA) published an article on their blog about Taylor Swift’s grandfathers and their military experience. (It was included in yesterday’s Crème de la crème.)
The day before, Ancestry published a blog post about Donna Kelce, a long-time subscriber who happens to be the mother of Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.
Ancestry says Ms. Kelce is now taking advantage of their new Memories feature to upload and edit photographs, share stories, and add audio notes.
A few generations back, in 1977, the TV series, Roots, inspired many to research their family history. Let’s hope these blog posts about Taylor Swift and her boyfriend’s family will have the same impact, encouraging the Swifties generation to explore their family history.
Perhaps someone on PBS’ Finding Your Roots team is already researching Taylor Swift’s ancestry for a future episode. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn they’ve already reached out to her management people. An episode about her ancestors would certainly draw a large — young — crowd.
