Library and Archives Canada contributes $1.5 million for 38 digitization projects

Through its Documentary Heritage Communities Program (DHCP), Library and Archives Canada will contribute $1.5 million to support 38 projects across the country.

The funding will help local recipient organizations acquire the tools that they need to adapt to the digital age, to improve the preservation of records, and to make their collections known and accessible through digitization.

The projects were chosen for their importance in reflecting the diverse voices of Canadian memory and for their role in preserving their local heritage.

While no genealogical societies received funding, a few historical societies will benefit from the program.

The maximum amount of funding is $50,000, and this year 21 organizations received more than $45,000 for their projects.

Since the creation of the DHCP in 2015, LAC has provided $13.5 million in support to 342 documentary heritage community projects.

The next call for proposals to apply for funding will be issued this fall.
