More digitized Ontario newspapers on OurDigitalWorld

In its December newsletter, OurDigitalWorld said that 2022 had seen a “mini-tsunami of newspapers coming online from the Lake Scugog Historical Society and Oshawa Public Library.”

The initiatives of the historical society and public library mean that more Durham Region papers are available for search and browse.

Durham Region is east and northeast of Toronto.

The latest newspapers to be digitized are The Port Perry Star 1933-1991, The Ontario Reformer 1922, Oshawa Daily Reformer 1926-1927, Oshawa Daily Times 1927-1928, and the Focus on Scugog magazine 2006-2015.

You can search and explore the Durham Region newspaper collection for Ajax, Clarington, Oshawa, Scugog and Whitby publications.

Looking ahead
Coming in early 2023, the OurOntario.ca search site will make searching easier and more fun with new features and functionality, including updated text, new look and feel, interactive faceting, and cleaner links.

Search and browse more than 200 organizational collections on Search.OurOntario.ca.

OurDigitalWorld is the successor to OurOntario, an initiative of Knowledge Ontario that was the result of widespread consultations between the Ontario Library Association and provincial stakeholders representing Ontario’s public libraries, colleges, universities, public schools, and government ministries. When Knowledge Ontario ceased operation in 2012, OurDigitalWorld was formed to carry on the work in providing an option to digitize historic materials.
