Ontario Ancestors will host the free webinar, Researching Métis Ancestors, presented by Christine Woodcock, today, September 1, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time.
In the late 18th century, Scotsmen traveled to York Factory to work with the Hudson’s Bay Company. Being indentured for three to five years, these men often coupled with Cree women, creating the Métis Nation. HBC’s rival, the Northwest Company, sent their men to the Red River area to trap over the winter months. These men also coupled with the Cree women, adding French blood to the Métis.
In this presentation, we will discuss:
• Western Métis Research
• Canadian Census Records
• Métis Scrip
• Online and Offline Resources for Researching Western Métis ancestry
Registration is required. The recording will likely be available afterward for members.
