Since July, FamilySearch has added an additional 151,824 indexed records to its Ontario Tax Assessment Rolls, 1834-1899, for a total of 2,056,812.
These records may include the name, age, occupation, and possibly the religious affiliation of the head of household, along with information about his lands, home, family members (by age categories), crops, and animals.
I have found a couple of relatives who lived in Toronto in the collection, but the records didn’t provide any new or interesting information. Perhaps when the records about relatives in small towns are indexed, I’ll discover a gem or two.
