Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec consults public on new digital strategy

Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) wants to step up the digitization of its heritage and archival collections. It also wants to make it easier for users to access, understand, and use its digital content and resources.

To do this, the provincial archives is working on a digital strategy for 2021 to 2028, and it has started consulting the public.

Residents of Quebec have until November 5 to express their opinions, concerns and expectations on the strategy.

The theme of the strategy consultation document is, translated into English,
“Knowledge and culture for all, everywhere, and at all times.”

While preparing its strategy, BAnQ consulted at least 12 other digital strategies, including those from Library and Archives Canada, Toronto Public Library, Halifax Public Library, Royal BC Museum, University of Harvard Library, Government of Australia, The National Archives (UK), and Library of Congress.

The public can consult the preliminary digital strategy document and Quebec residents can answer the survey at consultation.quebec.ca.  This is not a check-the-box type of survey. BAnQ is looking for long-form answers. Comments can also be sent by email to consultation-stratnum@banq.qc.ca before November 5, 2020.
