Amid concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic and how long it will last, Ontario Ancestors is in a tough position. Their conference — Canada’s largest genealogy event — takes place June 5 to 7 in Hamilton, and we still may not have flattened the curve by that time.
As of now, Ontario Ancestors has decided to closely monitor the situation, provide updates — and probably keep their fingers crossed.
Conference chair Dianna Fulton yesterday issued a statement where she said a formal re-evaluation regarding the viability of holding the conference will take place in mid-April.
Early bird registration and refund deadlines extended
In the meantime, early bird registration has been extended to April 30.
The registration refund period has been extended to May 5, and registrants can receive a refund up to that date.
If Ontario Ancestors cancels the conference for any reason, all registrants will receive a full refund.
Ms. Fulton said, “We recognize the uncertainty that these difficult times mean for all of us. You can register now and be assured that you can cancel your plans at any time up to, and including May 5, and obtain a 100 percent refund of your registration fees.”
The society plans to continue issuing conference updates.
