More than 25,000 Nova Scotia birth, marriage and death registrations being digitized

Nova Scotia vital statistics are coming in June or July.

The archivists at the Nova Scotia Archives have already started preparing to digitize the birth, marriage and death registrations for this year’s release.

They expect to complete the work by “early summer.” In 2019, registrations were available online in late September.

Here’s what they say about the upcoming release:

A new series of vital statistics records was released on 31 December 2019 and is now being prepared for www.novascotiagenealogy.com. This year, the records include births registered in 1919 (including delayed registrations); marriages registered in 1944; and deaths registered in 1969. Over 25,000 new research possibilities!

The records are currently being prepared for digitization at the Nova Scotia Archives, electronic indexes are being constructed or improved upon, and quality control testing is underway. We anticipate uploading in early summer, with further information to be posted as we approach launch date.

While waiting for this year’s release of records, you can search for ancestors in the provincial archives’ online vital statistics at www.novascotiagenealogy.com.
