British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa announces 2020 conference and issues call for proposals

Mark your calendar. The people who organize one of my favourite conferences yesterday announced at their monthly meeting the dates of their 2020 conference.

The British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa (BIFHSGO) announced it will hold its 26th annual conference from September 25 to 27, 2020 in Ottawa, Ontario.

The conference will be about Irish Lines and Female Finds: Researching Your Irish Roots and Female Ancestors.

The themes are researching Irish family history and finding those difficult female ancestors. DNA, in particular mtDNA and the use of the x-chromosome in autosomal matching, will also be part of the program.

Seminars/workshops take place on the Friday before the conference followed by two packed days of lectures by international speakers and local experts.

BIFHSGO’s usual features of a diverse marketplace and a free research room with assistance from local genealogists will also be on offer.

In 2019, their conference attracted more than 250 delegates whose experience ranged from beginner to expert.

Call for proposals
BIFHSGO invites proposals for presentations on the conference themes and other topics of interest to genealogists. They are also seeking proposals for half- or full-day workshops or seminars on the Friday before the conference.

Seasoned speakers and speakers new to the genealogical lecturing arena are encouraged to submit.

The submission deadline is January 31, 2020.

The proposal form and information about submitting it are on BIFHSGO’s website.
