If unable to attend RootsTech in London, England this week, where more than 150 sessions will be presented by an international contingent of speakers, you can still enjoy some of it at home.
From Thursday, October 24 to Saturday, October 26, RootsTech will livestream three sessions, including the keynote general sessions, from the conference. These sessions will be available for free on RootsTech’s home page.
All times in the livestream schedule are listed in GMT, but you can use the time converter tool to calculate when the sessions will be available in your time zone. (Compare Great Britian in the tool to your own time zone.)
Depending on where you live, you may have to rise before the crack of dawn to watch the first session at 9:00 a.m. In Eastern time, the session begins at 4:00 a.m. In the past, recordings of the livestreamed sessions were made soon after, so let’s hope that’s the case this time.
Free handouts
Handouts for most of the sessions in the full schedule are available for free. Click on a session title to find the syllabus under the session description.
You can also download the RootsTech app to see the handouts. The app is available through Google Play and the App Store. Scroll down to the bottom of any RootsTech page to find a link to the app.
Canadian trivia
Canada is also represented at RootsTech.
Dan Snow, one of the keynote speakers, holds British-Canadian citizenship. His mother is Canadian Ann MacMillan, managing editor emeritus of CBC’s London Bureau.
Mr. Snow’s keynote will be livestreamed on Thursday, at 11:00 a.m. local time (6:00 a.m. Eastern).
Other Canadians speaking at RootsTech are Lesley Anderson (Crossing the Pond: Tracing your ancestors’ journeys to Canada), Pooran Bridgelal (Discovering Our East Indian Roots from the Diaspora), and Deanna Bullock (Finding and Unlocking the Keys to British Parish Registers Online). Their presentations will not be livestreamed, but their handouts are available online.
