Savoir faire — 60 descendants gathering to re-enact 129-year-old photo of their ancestors

More than 60 relatives are gathering in Victoria, British Columbia this weekend to re-enact a family photo taken in the late 1800s.

According to a Victoria Times Colonist article, the idea came from “Gillian Leitch, the great-great-granddaughter of Frederick and Mary Pauline, a couple who came to Victoria from England with their family in the 1880s. The original photo, taken in 1890 or 1891 (which appears in the linked article), depicts 25 members of the family across three generations in front of Tod House, the family home, on Heron Street in Oak Bay.”

Family members also plan to visit the Ross Bay Cemetery, where many of their relatives are buried.

The Sooke News Mirror also has a good article about the reunion.

This is an idea worth borrowing for the next family get-together, whether it be a big reunion or weekend barbecue.

Let’s hope Dr. Leitch posts the 2019 photo on her blog, Gilliandr’s Blog.
