Quebec Catholic baptisms and burials up to 1861 now available on Genealogy Quebec

The Drouin Institute yesterday announced the LAFRANCE collection on its Genealogy Quebec website now has all Quebec Catholic baptisms and burials from 1621 to 1861.

The latest additions to LAFRANCE are Catholic baptisms and burials that took place between 1850 and 1861. This project, which began in 2015, represents the addition of 652,502 baptism and burial records from 422 different parishes.

LAFRANCE contains a total of 3,755,659 Quebec parish records:

  • All Catholic baptisms from 1621 to 1861
  • All Catholic marriages from 1621 to 1917
  • All Protestant marriages from 1760 to 1849
  • All Catholic burials from 1621 to 1861

The Drouin Institute’s long-range plan is to digitize church registers from all Quebec parishes up to 1940.

Genealogy Quebec is a subscription-based, French and English website where researchers can see digitized images of the original church registers. Subscriptions are available for $5 a day, $13 a month, and $100 a year.
