Ancestry announces new search tool coming soon

Ancestry.com announced on its blog that a new search tool is coming that will provide us with more control over our results. The tool is a new sliding control that will make it easy to broaden or narrow our search results. While I sometimes react to change with a bit of reluctance, it looks like this new tool will be easy to use, and I look forward to giving it a try.

Perhaps the sliding control will help me find when my elusive great-great-uncle Alexander Brown Young. (I referred to him in a earlier blog post about Toronto maps.) He was born in 1852 in Aberdeen, Scotland and came to Montreal with his family in 1855. By 1922, he was a cork cutter, working in Toronto for Freyseng Cork. Our best guess is that he died between 1925 and March 1926, likely in Toronto. His wife Catherine Bruce died in Rochester, New York in April 1926.

  1. This will be fantastic. I have had a hard time narrowing results, especially with some of my common-surnamed ancestors. Can’t wait!
