Saskatchewan Archives’ move into CBC building means increased reference service hours

The Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan announced last week it will move into the CBC Building in Regina.

All five current locations of the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan will be consolidated into the space through an arrangement with CBC/Radio-Canada Saskatchewan.

According to the Regina Leader-Post, “Work began in December and will take about nine months to finish. Holdings are currently spread across five locations in Regina and Saskatoon. All either have or will close.”

This new location in Wascana Park is expected to open to the public in August 2019.

New centralized archive to offer improved service
Once the new location opens, reference services will be offered five days a week (up from three days a week), outreach services will expand, and public archival records, which have been awaiting transfer from government storage sites, will be moved to the provincial archives collection.

Provincial Archivist Linda McIntyre said, “This consolidated location will allow us to truly fulfill our mandate and our custodial role as keeper of the province’s documentary accounts. We look forward to offering improved services to all of our clients as we begin this new chapter in the provincial archives’ history.”
