Join me at the Ontario Genealogical Society meeting in Kingston

If you plan to be in the Kingston, Ontario area on Saturday, October 20, join me at the Ontario Genealogical Society Kingston Branch‘s meeting where I’ll be speaking about how to use social media to help with family history research.

My presentation, Taking Advantage of Social Media for Your Family History Research, is for genealogists who already use some social media for their research, those who are not using social media to help with their research — and those who are leery about anything that has to do with social media.

Imagine there are genealogists around you 24/7, sharing resources, advising you, and perhaps learning from you as well. That’s social media. My presentation will focus on how genealogists can benefit from following top social media, such as Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook, and blogs.

I will explain how to use social media, find the best resources, maximize your time, and connect with genealogists around the world.

The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a brief talk by Thérèse Gilbert, who will talk about main research sites for Quebec.

At 10:00 a.m., the branch will hold a short business meeting, and then I will deliver my presentation. Copies of my handout will be distributed.

The meeting takes place in the Sir John A. Macdonald Room at the Seniors Centre East, 56 Francis Street in Kingston — not in the beautiful city hall, pictured above. Admission is free, and there is lots of free parking too.

Members and visitors are welcome to come between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. to work on their genealogy or brainstorm with other members about brick-wall ancestors or other research questions.

I look forward to seeing you there.
