Webinar — Preserving family history in the face of disaster

It has been a tough year for those affected wildfires in British Columbia and California. One of the first thoughts that came to mind was “Did they take their photos? What about the heirlooms?”

With Hurricane Florence showing her fury right now, the Southern California Genealogical Society’s timing of this month’s free webinar seems beyond coincidental, and unfortunately too late for many living in the Carolinas. Still, the rest of us are in a good position to take advantage.

On Wednesday, September 19, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, Denise Levenick will deliver the webinar, Preserving Family History in the Face of Disaster.

Protect your family heirlooms and genealogy research from fire, flood, or other disaster. Learn practical ways to protect your photos and artifacts, and first aid strategies to save wet photographs and damaged documents. Leave this session with a customizable Genealogy Action Plan to preserve your family history. Be prepared!

In her email reminder about the webinar, Ms. Levenick wrote:

When we were schoolchildren, disaster drills involved tuck-and-roll under our desks. But nowadays, as genealogists we need more preparation than learning to duck under a desk. We can safeguard our genealogy by knowing how to:

  • Preserve the past
  • Protect the present
  • Plan for the future
