Genealogists around the world will be envious of the residents of Quebec City.
For its 410th anniversary on July 3, the city will organize a celebration with genealogy as its theme, highlighting local history and the people who lived there years ago.

Mayor Régis Labeaume said at a news conference yesterday he wants to stimulate an interest in genealogy among the city’s residents so they will want to research their ancestors. He did not, however, say how he intends to do that.
Some of the day’s activities will include guided historical tours.
The guest of honour will be the mayor of Biddeford, Maine, Alan Casavant, who is a member of the North American Francophone and Francophile Cities Network. Mayor Labeaume said he would not be surprised if Mr. Casavant, with his last name, has roots in Quebec.
Residents of Quebec City who were born on July 3 will be invited to visit a kiosk at city hall to pick up a button designed in their honour. As has been the tradition, parents of babies born July 3, 2018 are invited to contact the city by September 15. The mayor will meet the children and their families at city hall in the fall.
The day’s festivities are listed on Quebec City’s website, with an English version to appear soon.
